I like this EMDR Coloring Book better than Mark's first one - although I highly rated the first one as well... For my clients who find coloring a helpful resource, this is a nice tool to give them. I like that we can find the positive cognition that fits their needs and, as they color, they see the words of the positive cognition. There have been a few instances where the image to color felt especially fitting to the positive cognition. Great resource to add to your EMDR library or toolbox. I've even found it helpful for a client who prefers a more cognitive behavioral approach as the pages chosen are still reinforcing a positive belief rather than a negative or unhelpful belief.

I could not help but get right into it. It is an art book in itself and the messages are incredible. I wanted to get my coloring pencils out and start right in on it myself. Absolutely I believe it makes an excellent tool for the client that needs something calming when away from our offices and who can benefit so much from more than fleeting affirmations they may be inconsistent with when life circumstances are not supportive. I wonder if the adults might want to be able to tear out pages they feel are special for themselves and post them. It was a consideration, but it would probably raise the price of the book. This is a concept whose time has definitely come. It seems way underpriced for the good I feel it could do. I intend to recommend it to my clients.

A Look Inside

The original! With close to a thousand copies sold, this book pairs positive cognitions with beautiful works of art by French printmaker, Alphonse Legros. Some images are calming, and others invoke more emotion for subtle, contained processing.

The back half of this book pairs positive cognitions with images for coloring. The first half, however, is designed to help you with your treatment planning. It provides blank spaces for kids to draw pictures of both positive memories for resourcing and difficult memories for reprocessing.

While the original EMDR Coloring book can be more emotionally evocative, the images in this sequel were purposefully chosen to be emotionally neutral. Artwork includes mandalas, Celtic knots, floral designs, and geometric shapes. Designed to help with emotional regulation during and between sessions.

As an EMDR therapist and Approved Consultant I would highly recommend this book to not only my clients but my consultees as well. The pictures depict the depth of pain and suffering that clients can easily identify with and creates a way to express their pain without words. Each page also provides positive cognitions that create a source of healing and restoration for clients and allows them to emphasize strength in suffering. Mark has done an outstanding job of choosing pictures that denote struggle but also strength, and let's clients identify with both aspects of their trauma. Thank you Mark for creating a resource for expressing the pain that accompanies the healing that we are privileged to share with those that entrust their lives to us!

The EMDR Coloring Book II is another wonderful addition to my toolbox of adjunct resources for my work with EMDR clients! As with the first EMDR Coloring Book, each page pairs an artwork image with a positive core cognition. Whereas the first coloring book featured realist works of fine art by the print maker Alphonse Legros, this second EMDR coloring book features more traditional mandala style works of art. Each book will appeal to different clients, depending on the client's stylistic preference. This second book may appeal to a wider general audience. A great additional feature of this second book is that it only prints one image/core cognition on one side of each page, making it user friendly for those who would like to cut out the pages to display or take with them.
